Introduction

We understand that losing a loved one is a deeply difficult time. This document outlines the steps required for managing a storage unit held with Self Storage Hire Ltd when the registered account holder has passed away.

Our goal is to handle the process with compassion, sensitivity, and clarity.

Step 1: Notification of Death

Please inform us of the customer’s passing as soon as possible by contacting our office:

Email: sales@selfstoragehire.co.uk
Phone: 01603 55 2030
Address:
Self Storage Hire Ltd
Porters Lane
Lenwade
Norwich
NR9 5LR

We will require a copy of the death certificate to place a temporary hold on the account to prevent any further charges or access until proper arrangements can be made.

Step 2: Identification of Legal Authority

To proceed, we require confirmation of the individual who is legally authorised to manage the deceased’s estate. This person is typically referred to as the executor or administrator.

Please provide one of the following documents:
    •    A Grant of Probate (if a will exists), naming the executor
    •    Letters of Administration (if there is no will)
    •    A solicitor’s letter confirming you are acting on behalf of the estate

Note: We are unable to grant access or allow any removal of items from the unit until legal authority is established.

Step 3: Account Management

Once the appropriate documentation has been verified, the authorised individual may:
    •    Access the unit and/or arrange removal of contents
    •    Continue the rental under a new agreement
    •    Close the account, in which case rent will be charged only up to the date the unit is cleared and the key/fob returned

Any prepaid rent beyond this date will be refunded to the estate.

If the unit is not cleared, rent will continue to be due in line with the terms of the agreement until it is vacated.

Step 4: Clearance of Unit

The executor or authorised person is responsible for:
    •    Removing all items from the unit
    •    Leaving the unit in clean and empty condition
    •    Returning the key if applicable.

Please arrange a clearance date with us in advance so we can assist and ensure access.

Additional Notes
    •    Insurance: If insurance was purchased through us, it will remain in effect until the unit is vacated. Any claims should be made through the insurance provider directly.
    •    Outstanding Balances: Any unpaid fees will need to be settled by the estate before releasing contents unless otherwise agreed.
    •    Abandoned Goods: If no contact is made within 60 days of notification, we reserve the right to begin the process of reclaiming the unit under TORTS as per defined in the terms of our contract.
